In the match between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in round 28 of La Liga on the morning of March 17, Griezmann made history as the foreign player with the most appearances in the Spanish National Championship (520 matches). This number helped the French striker equal the record of Lionel Messi.

Griezmann is one of the icons of La Liga. Previously, this striker also surpassed many other famous players in the number of appearances in the Spanish National Championship, including Karim Benzema (439 matches), Ivan Rakitic (438) and Dani Alves (436).

Against Barcelona, Griezmann did not score or assist. He was paired up with Julian Alvarez in attack by coach Diego Simeone but played poorly. In 86 minutes on the pitch, Griezmann did not have a single shot on target. The former Barcelona star created 3 scoring opportunities for his teammates. In the end, Atletico lost 2-4 to Barcelona.

As for Griezmann, he is still a mainstay of Atletico at the age of 33. In the 2024/25 season, the French striker scored 16 goals and had 7 assists. This striker still maintains his ability to score goals and support his teammates very well.

However, Griezmann is considering leaving Spain at the end of this season. His contract with Atletico runs until the summer of 2026. If he leaves La Liga, Griezmann’s next destination could be MLS. Messi’s Inter Miami is one of the ideal destinations.
