The prestigious British magazine Four Four Two recently published an updated ranking of the 100 greatest football players of all time, with Argentine star Lionel Messi at the top. Standing on the podium with the 2022 World Cup champion are Pele and Diego Maradona. However, both Pele and Maradona have passed away.
In fourth place is Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo. At 40 years old, he is still playing for Al Nassr Club in the Saudi Arabian National Championship. It was even more noisy when Ronaldo recently declared himself “the greatest player of all time”.
In an interview with Spain’s La Sexta, CR7 confidently declared himself the best player of all time. Ronaldo said: “Honestly, I have never seen anyone better than me. Up to now, I am the most complete player. I can do everything in football. I am good at heading, good at free kicks, good at shooting with my left foot, I am fast and strong. I am the most complete. I am the greatest football player in history, no doubt about it.”
Referring to Messi, the representative of Four Four Two magazine emphasized: “In 20 years, young fans will read about a character whose talent amazed the world, broke a series of records and opened an era of domination. Reaching the top is one thing, and maintaining that position is another. Messi is that kind of person.”
