Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes did not hesitate to choose Lionel Messi as the greatest player of all time (GOAT) over Cristiano Ronaldo.
Recently, midfielder Bruno Guimaraes joined the debate on who is the greatest player of all time (GOAT) between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Accordingly, the Brazilian player admitted that he had faced both of the above stars, as well as his compatriot Neymar, but in the end, he affirmed that Messi was the player who caused the most difficulties and deserved the title GOAT the most.
Sharing with TNT Sports, Bruno affirmed: “I have faced Messi, Cristiano, Neymar… But I choose Messi.”

Bruno’s above choice is completely reasonable, as this former Lyon player once faced Messi, the superstar who once played for PSG.
In a previous interview with the Charla podcast, Bruno revealed his experience playing against Messi. The Newcastle midfielder said: “One time, we were playing Lyon against PSG. Messi was already at PSG. We were about to start the game and the referee gave me a minute to prepare. I saw Messi doing this waving gesture. I thought, ‘Oh my God, is he calling me?’ Messi called me over, waving like that. I went over, shook his hand, and then he hugged me.
Oh my god, Messi called me to talk to him! I couldn’t believe he was talking to me. Seriously, there’s a video of that moment online. I went up to him, he said: ‘How are you?’ I said: ‘Everything’s fine, what about you?’ And then the game started. I was so excited I couldn’t even describe it! The video is still online.
When he dribbled, it was like his feet were glued together; the ball never left his grasp! It was amazing! My teammates told me to mark the left side. But that’s Messi! You can’t stop him, you can’t. But in that game, I marked him quite well. Yeah, he didn’t score, but luckily that didn’t happen.”

After showing potential in France, Bruno Guimaraes was recruited by Newcastle in the summer of 2022. Here, the Brazilian midfielder has proven his ability over the past three seasons and is currently rated as one of the top defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is entering the final years of his peak career. At 37 years old, the Argentine superstar is still a mainstay in Inter Miami and promises to bring more noble titles to the team this season.
