Patrice Evra made a shocking statement about the 2022 World Cup. |
Speaking on the podcast of former French player Jérôme Rothen, Patrice Evra affirmed: “Everyone knows that in 2022, they (referring to FIFA – PV) awarded the World Cup to Messi”. This statement immediately caused a stir in the football community, raising questions about the fairness of the tournament in which Argentina won the championship in 2022.
Evra affirmed: “The French team has not won the world championship since 2018 but we all know that in 2022, they will give the World Cup to Messi. Everything is written. Even the French want Messi to win. The penalty at the beginning of the final against Argentina, and then the developments after that.”
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is remembered as the stage for Messi to complete his dream of the biggest title of his career, when he led Argentina past France in a dramatic final. However, public statements from Evra – a famous former French football player – have once again caused great controversy.
Until now, FIFA and related parties have never given an official response to the “conspiracy theory”-style accusations from mass fans or experts like Evra.
As a player, Evra lost to Messi three times in the Champions League final with Manchester United (twice in 2009 and 2011), and with Juventus in 2015. In 2021, Evra also claimed that Messi was “set up” to win the Ballon d’Or, an award he believed the Argentine superstar did not deserve that year.
